    • Obituary
      George Clifford Hirst age 87, president of North Valley nursing home in Tonakit, passed away February 3, 2004. One of 14 children born to RC "Bud" and Orpha May Walker Hirst, George was born in Molson Washington and raised on the family ranch on Strawberry Mountain just north of Chesaw, attending the Lone Star and Chesaw schools. In 1933 at age 17, George joined the CCC and was to say it was the best experience he could ever of had at such a young age. On June 15, 1936, he married Neva Arlene Forney in Republic, Washington and began a journey together which lasted for over 62 years. Two daughters born while they made their home in Coralville and in the early 40s George and his family moved to Osborne, Washington. George worked at the dam and later for the Washington state highway department. He then entered the US military serving in the Philippines. Upon his discharge in 1946 he moved his family which had increased with the birth of two sons, back to the Orville she saw area. George Grove school bus for the Molson school district for a number of years before becoming a ditch writer for the Bureau of reclamation and moving to the try-cities area. In the early 60s will working in Guam, George was injured in a fall from an electrical pole and was forced into early retirement. Georgian Neva moved to Carnation, Washington and lived near family for a number of years but assume the love of the Okanogan Highlands overtook them and the return to live out the remainder of their lives in the or avail area. George love to hunt fish pan for gold and garden but the tours of the mountains and the hills in the summertime and the gathering of family and friends were there food for life. In February 1999, George lost his beloved Neva and continued his journey into life living in the nursing home surrounded by the loving care of staff, family and friends. Those that survive him are his two daughters, Laura may "Pat" and husband Willis McKinney, Georgia "bubbles" and her husband David Nelson. Two sons, liberally Hirst and wife Rose and and Lyle "lad" Hirst and wife Sandy. 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. One sister Ruby will of Walla Walla, two brothers Robert Hirst of or avail and Ted Hirst of affront to Washington. One brother-in-law said sleeve of Thomas Also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, three sisters. Services to be held Monday, February 9, 2004 at 11 AM at the Chesaw Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the North Valley nursing home. Bergh funeral home in charge of arrangements.
